Discovering the Charm of Maine wood floors

Maine hardwood flooring contractor

in Madison Maine

There are many reasons I love what I do, one of which is the ability to travel to various areas in this beautiful state of Maine. One particular job took me to a home tucked into the woods on Lake Wesserunsett in Madison, Maine.

Every morning, I would head down I-95 with the logging trucks and the rush of morning commuters. After the Newport exit, I would drive more slowly through rural towns. I passed farms, churches, and empty homes sinking back into the earth. I saw Tractor Supply, Dunkin’s, and American flags sticking out of telephone poles. Then, I cruised into the hustle and bustle of Skowhegan. I passed by Maine Grains, and I highly suggest stopping there for their open-faced pulled pork sandwich—you won’t be disappointed. After that, I continued up towards Madison.

Pulling into this particular driveway, the tall pines towered over my truck, casting shadows as sunbeams pushed through. The lake was off to the left, with views of the mountains in the distance. The lake breeze, pushing up off the water, immediately wrapped me in its crisp coolness. I love this job site, especially during a humid summer stretch.

The Art of Refinishing Floors

This job is a refinishing job, which is our bread and butter. Bringing old floors back to life is incredible. I frequently get asked if I prefer refinishing or installing, and I honestly can’t choose. Both transformations are amazing. I love the alchemy of both processes. Each of them turns a home into something more than it was, giving spaces new life and new beginnings on which to live, love, and create memories. While the process can be grueling, the outcome is always rewarding.

The Process of Refinishing

These particular wood floors are beautiful 4 1/4” wide white oak floors. They have been kept in excellent condition, which makes our sanding process much easier. Once we finish sanding, we buff them, then vacuum, dry mop, and apply the first coat of polyurethane. After a bit more buffing and a few more coats, we have a beautifully finished floor, warm and glowing in the sunlight—ready for the homeowners to enjoy and make new memories on.

The Joy of Transformation

The joy of transforming a space is unmatched. Each project tells a story, and every floor we refinish adds a chapter to the lives of the homeowners. It’s not just about the physical labor; it’s about the emotional connection we build with each space.

As we work, we often imagine the family gatherings, the laughter, and the quiet moments that will take place on these floors. It’s a privilege to be part of that journey.

Embracing the Environment

Working in Madison also allows me to appreciate the natural beauty of Maine. The landscapes are breathtaking, and the community is warm and welcoming. Each trip to a job site feels like a mini-vacation. The fresh air and scenic views rejuvenate my spirit.

Looking Forward

For us, it's on to the next project. Each job brings new challenges and opportunities. We look forward to the next home we can help transform. Whether it’s refinishing or installing, we are committed to excellence.

In conclusion, the work we do in Madison, Maine, is more than just a job. It’s a passion. It’s about creating spaces where memories are made and cherished. If you’re considering a flooring project, remember that the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace the process, and you’ll find joy in every step.
